Running for President: George Edwin Taylor, 1904
George Edwin Taylor
Its that time of the year!!  Its finally election time.Which means get ready to vote for who you think is best to take charge of this nation. In today's world we have freedom to vote and nominate kamala Harris as the first African American woman vice president with an open mind and liberated spirit. The tables were much more tuned back in 1904 when an African American man named George Edwin Taylor took a shot at running for president on a third-party-ticket.George Taylor comes from an educated back ground and worked as a professional journalist for colored people before getting into politics. He realised that colored peoples interest were left out in the construction era early 1900s.George wanted to run for president to represent his people along with all people to come together and live with equal rights. His campaign was joked about and left off the ballot in most states. He was not elected for president but after elections he still proved that black men are able to lead a country with every person in mind, and not just from one races perspective. He quoted after election "The black man is beginning to see he has got to take care of his own interest, and that he has the power to do it".

55 Things You Need to Know About Kamala Harris - POLITICO
Kamala Harris

Fast forward to today Kamala Harris was nominated as Joe Biden's running mate for the 2020 elections. She started her career as a tax attorney .Similar to George Taylor she has a passion for advocating for people who can not defend for themselves. Kamala was elected the First African-American Attorney General and served in 2011 to 2016. She was then elected on January 3rd, 2017 to serve in the U.S Senate. Kamala does not have as much discrimination against her as there would have been in the 1900s. With her not only African-American but also a woman, she has worked very hard to be placed in the powerful position that she is in. Kamala like George Taylor announced her run for President 2020 but unfortunately had to suspend her campaign.she stated "I am still very much in this fight, and i will keep fighting everyday for what this campaign has been about, justice for all the people". In 1904 women were not allowed any rights until the 19th amendment constituted August 18,1920.Still it would take many years before for a Black woman could run her own campaign for president . Change has finally come and it is starting to show.

George Taylor and Kamala Harris had to fight some of the same battles with many differences and similarities. They both come from lower class backgrounds but also became well educated and attended universities. although the odds seemed against them they both had one thing in common fighting for  people that needed them the most.Kamala Harris has a even better chance today as Joe Biden's running mate for vice president. Her image is taken much more seriously as people seem to care more about a persons morals and integrity than the color of their skin alone. Even if she does not win election as first African-American woman Vice-President she will still have made a great statement as George Taylor did that anyone color, race, gender ANYONE can have the power to make change.

  1. I enjoyed your blog. Punctuation and capitalization in a few of the sentences is missing. I agree that Kamala Harris has a better chance now than George Taylor did back then.
